Focus: Such a fundamental aspect of Photography. Badly focused shots are always binned. Get it right in camera then sometimes add blur back in during post processing. But, as photographers, we are very selective about where we want that focus point to be and where and to what degree the blur is allowed. Life has been a bit like that recently..

The other day Mother Duck came walking through camp with nine little 'uns in tow. A photographic moment? Perhaps, seeing as I had the 70-200 still attached, it would be relatively easy, but did I feel like it? I rather like the position of being able to choose whether to create art/capture the moment in time or just enjoy the show with no permanent record to paste around the web. It is a luxury. However... I read somewhere today that one can drag images into Google search and it will show all same or similar images across the web. It doesn't show images on Facebook though, but is a way to see if one's images are appearing elsewhere on the web without permission. This image I "downresed" to 72 DPI. Something I need to do more often it seems, but it does make me sad that things can't be displayed the way they should. This was taken with my new lens. New for me, but used before and very exciting and Sometimes when we really want to do something, we just can't. A fact of life really. In fact this may be the only story of many peoples lives. So, may I be grateful when I am eventually able to do those things that I really love to do. My 'eventually' is only usually a few days anyway. Perhaps the key to being able to enjoy what we do often, is to rearrange our lives to suit that. Make the sacrifices, quit the procrastination and I had some time to think today. Waiting for the kids to finish their art lesson I went for a wander along the Katikati Estuary http://www.katikati.co.nz/ There were a few birds, mostly too far away for my 200mm and poor light. The weather was not very pleasant, windy, sunless and pretty drab. It is interesting then, what catches our attention if we take the time to look. I went out determined to find Apparently there is a tropical storm that will show it's face on our weather radar in the next few days. I love living near the beach and watching the slow change over the days as a storm comes from the East or North East. These storms are usually tropical (ish) in origin and therefore far more interesting to me now that I live on the East coast, than the wintery southerly blast we get. The ocean usually
This is taken in Thames, a town at the southwestern end of the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand's North Island. I am trying to find out who the creator of this sculpture is. Watch this space.
Ever since I outgrew my D5000 I have wondered about upgrading to a full frame camera (As defined by a camera with a sensor around the dimensions of 24mmx36mm). Actually "wondered" is far too tame a word! The correct word would be closer to 'anguished'! The reported difference in DOF rendition, better quality images, better results at higher ISO, my primes actually showing true size and whatever other benefits are associated with the upgrade, vs the weight increase of the body and lenses, the price hike for the body and lenses and the normalised 'reach' of the telephoto lenses. I went from the D5000 to the D7000 and I do really like using it. I like to shoot wide, my all time favourite lens is the 10-20mm Sigma. I like low light work and try to use available light and shoot hand held as much as possible, as a challenge. Depending of course, what I am photographing. AuthorI am a visual person. I find that surrounding myself in creation, feasting my eyes on what is before me and daydreaming a little is great refreshment for my soul. I also read avidly about trends, techniques and technicalities associated with visual art. When I can, I love assigning large chunks of time responding to what I see and crafting my own art. Here is a place to put that down. Archives
