I was greeted with this view. In fact this is my very fist shot I managed to fire off once I had set up the tripod and dialled in my settings. Yes, truly those colours actually were there in the clouds.

Tomorrow is full moon. It rises over our beach and is a fantastic thing to watch if the timing is right. My plan was to wait until tomorrow and then go and "shoot the moon". That was until I looked outside my front door this evening. A casual glance just to see what the blustery conditions had blown up weather wise. Today really has been annoyingly windy with dust getting into everything. I was greeted with this view. In fact this is my very fist shot I managed to fire off once I had set up the tripod and dialled in my settings. Yes, truly those colours actually were there in the clouds. I have been trying to work out... whether a wide aperture-shorter shutter speed, or the opposite, a narrower aperture and longer shutter speed gives better results. Any thoughts? I mean specifically for night photography. I realise anything that moves need special consideration plus the ISO plays a role. I think this shot may have been taken during a lull in the wind as it's relatively sharp compared to my others. My setting for this one: Nikon D7000, 70-200mm@70mm, 1s f/2.8.

AuthorI am a visual person. I find that surrounding myself in creation, feasting my eyes on what is before me and daydreaming a little is great refreshment for my soul. I also read avidly about trends, techniques and technicalities associated with visual art. When I can, I love assigning large chunks of time responding to what I see and crafting my own art. Here is a place to put that down. Archives
