Cyclone

After the last beautifully serene night shot, we have been preparing to welcome Cyclone Lusi to our shores. Nowadays there seems to be so much hype over incoming weather of all varieties. In part I guess, due to such great technology, able to inform us of every inch of movement the storm takes. It dominated the news and there seems little time to think of anything else. Even if one does not watch the news, there is no escape, thanks to technology. Plenty of good can come of this, we can all be prepared and usually it seems to turn out that it isn't as bad as it may have been- which is a good, positive outlook.
This shot is taken ..

At the north end of Waihi Beach. Usually there is a great draught of sand to play on and this swing is above the normal high tide mark. This shot actually seems to show little of the actual experience of taking it. The winds were buffeting horizontal rain into every crevice of my body and the camera's, the surf was pounding and the trees were bending over to reach me. All in all, very exhilarating. I enjoyed my 10 minutes out amongst it all. Yes my precious camera was protected, home-design style protected. No water housing available here! So I risked it with a ziplock bag and a hair tie holding the corner opening for the lens pretty securely in place. Problem was, it was a manual focus lens so the challenges abounded. A cotton sock provided the lens wipe I so often needed. However, all seems well.

I am a visual person. I find that surrounding myself in creation, feasting my eyes on what is before me and daydreaming a little is great refreshment for my soul. I also read avidly about trends, techniques and technicalities associated with visual art. When I can, I love assigning large chunks of time responding to what I see and crafting my own art. Here is a place to put that down.
